What Is Conveyor System?

A conveyor system is the mechanical handling equipment that transport materials from one place to another. Conveyors are a common sight at airports, scrapyards and many other locations. They are useful wherever items need to be transported. Moving from one place to another, making the process easier, faster and more convenient.

Industrial Benefits of Conveyor Systems

If it were not for conveyors, materials would have to be fed manually. In which, it involves hiring labor and creates its own set of human resource challenges. Human labor is a lot less efficient and not very cost-effective in the long run. Commercial conveyors has uses in a variety of industries in order to overcome these challenges.

Types of Conveyors

Conveyors come in various sizes and shapes. Depending on the type of industry they are, variables can change. Some of the common types include:

  • Chain Belt Conveyors – Also known as Chain Edge Conveyors. Designed to carry high volumes of products. Used on the work floor, in most cases transporting waste materials. Basically, it is used in sorting line feeds, mixed lines and feed side eject balers.
  • Steel Belt Conveyors – Steel Belt Conveyors use two types of belt designs – piano hinge and steel apron. These conveyors can carry a serious amount of weight, generally anywhere from 20 to 50 tons every hour. Uses are in heavy feeder applications such as compactors, heavy-duty mixed waste lines and heavy-duty 2 RAM scrap balers.
  • Slider Bed Conveyors – Slider conveyors are used in applications where a chain belt is too weak and a steel belt is too heavy. Capacities start from 1 ton and go up to 15 tons and come with a speed varying mechanism allowing for slow to fast operations. It serves feeding side eject balers and horizontal balers.
  • MRF Sorting Lines – This is not a standard type and features a combination of slider bed, chain belt, and steel belts. Individual requirements of the client is the basis for designing.

Benefits of Conveyors

As mentioned above, conveyors are a huge enhancement over using human labor to perform the activity of feeding. Other than this, here are some more benefits of using conveyor system:

  1. Inclined conveyors allow materials, both big and small, easy movement from one elevation to another. Thus, saving a lot of time.
  2. Conveyors offer unlimited opportunities to continuously load and unload items over a long period of time.
  3. Large factories will have requirements where materials need to be moved between multiple levels or floors. By design, it can transport of materials across levels, with almost no limitation of height.
  4. Conveyors with automated incline belts can automatically unload materials, eliminating manual unloading. No time is wasted in monitoring material unloads.
  5. Speed at which materials are moving can be controlled carefully. In which, it means there are fewer chances of something breaking and causing loss due to handling issues.
  6. Conveyors can move in both directions. This is very useful when materials need to be moved between opposite ends of a manufacturing unit during the manufacturing process.

Use of Conveyors

Almost every industry are using conveyors for their materials handling. Including bottling plants, recycling centers, plastic making factories and so on.

The primary advantage of conveyor systems is automation. They automate a lot of human tasks associated with the manufacturing and transportation of materials. This includes tasks like feeding, moving, loading and unloading of materials. If your company or factory has any of these requirements,, an industrial conveyor is definitely something you should invest in.
